Volunteering through EVS

Charlottendal has begun hosting volunteers through the European Voluntary Service (EVS) programme in 2018. At the moment volunteers are hosted by the Support Organisation for Transition in Järna (Stödföreningen för Omställning Järna – previously Omställning Järna). The volunteer programme consists of about 50% work at Charlottendal’s farm and 50% work at other organisations in Järna which are part of the Transition network. Work at the farm includes taking care of animals, gardening, and seasonal farm work such as hay collection. The first volunteers staying here have participated in building a new log house as a base of operations for current and future volunteers. There are also opportunities to participate in organising courses and events at the farm. In addition to work at Charlottendal, volunteers spend half of their time at other organisations in Järna. These have included working on international development projects with Föreningen SOFIA, repairing bikes with Cykelkultur, building a wooden shelter with Lilla Bullerbyn’s carpenter, as well as gardening and cooking at Under Tallarna, a project in community supported agriculture. This mix of activities allows volunteers to try many different things during their stay with us, while learning about environmental issues and community life. Take a look at the building process:
